Black Clay Frida Skull

These Magical black clay (barro negro) skulls hand-sculpted in San Bartolo Coyotepec, Oaxaca, Mexico. After drying these little pieces of art are fired through a process called “reduction” the oxygen is removed from the firing atmosphere, carbonizing the clay to give it this lovely black color. These are hand made items, and as such may not be exactly the same as the photo, but it will be close!
